How to recruit Apprentices / Trainees

There are two ways in which an employer can take on an Apprentice, Trainee or ASBA. As an employer, you can employ them directly, with the assistance of a Australian Apprenticeship Centre (AAC) or you can employ the services of a Group Training Company.

Benefits

Australian Apprenticeships provide real benefits for businesses, including taking on an Apprentice or Trainee at an affordable cost while enhancing the skill level of your staff.

Wages

Each apprenticeship/ traineeship is covered by an appropriate State or Federal award which outlines the minimum legal requirements as to how much you should be paid, the terms and conditions of your employment and other entitlements such as: sick pay, holiday pay, meal breaks, work cover, superannuation, as well as training, assessment and supervision. To clarify what the minimum pay and entitlements are for your position, and for other related inquiries, contact the Commonwealth Department of Employment, Workplace Relations and Small Business ‘Wageline’ on 1300 363 264; or visit www.wagenet.gov.au.
